Christian Death was one of the initial Death Rock groups that formed in the Los Angeles Punk Scene in the early 80's. Borrowing a healthy amount of musical help from the Adolescents and later SuperHeroins, Rozz Williams' Bowiesque (listen to Bowie's Diamond Dogs intro spoken word) voice captured a believably haunting feel. Only Theatre of Pain is the sole album from this period. It is raw and genuinely dark in a spiritual context. Though not overtly anti-Christian, the lyrics rather display a soul in search of meaning.
